South Pasadena is just a couple of miles away, so I opted to try this restaurant because I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I wanted it local and something I’ve never tried before. So this is the last night of DineLA and I wanted to go out large. Everyone ordered fish as their entrees and everyone was happy. Delicious! It was light to bite into and just the right amount of chocolate on top. Dessert: Our group decided to grab a dessert to share and ordered the Hazelnut Mousse Cake. And the Caper Butter Sauce was just the right amount.

The Seabass was prepared just right crispy skin on the outside & flakey moist inside. Its been the best Loup de Mer, I have had in a long while. Entrée: Last time I had the Sizzling Catfish which I really enjoyed.
Starter: Signature Chinese Ravioli filled w/Shrimp Mousse & Shiitake Mushroom Sauce. We ordered a bottle of Sancerre with dinner. Server was friendly and greeted us quickly and paced food well throughout our dinner. Colleague wanted a quiet place to talk and this was perfect. We were immediately greeted by hostess and seated in a different section. The ambiance is minimalist, but the colors of the walls are soft hues. The location is a bit odd (squeezed between businesses), so the layout does feel a bit like an office. Plenty of parking, all around the building. Made a reservation for 3, last minute, thru Opentable. Its been a long while, but I am soooo glad I gave this place another try. Parking: there’s valet in the front but there was no one working that night … One of the busiest nights of the year. However he was very friendly and talkative with other tables, yet quick & choppy with us. We appreciated that he was quick with drink refills, made cocktail recommendations, and checked up on us. Service: our waiter was attentive, despite how busy it was. The highlight was the salmon tartar hard-shell tacos. I have a huge sweet tooth and love cheesecake, but couldn’t get past 2 bites of this one. For what you pay and what you get, there are dozens of other places in LA that are more exciting and will get you better menu options. Maybe the items they chose for the set Valentine’s Day menu were not the best, because there are lots of pics of other things that look really good but were not available that day. Food: the food was good, but not memorable or anything I’d like to go back and have again.

Word of Advice: Don’t get full off the bread, but have it handy for dipping up all the extra sauces.įirst impression: décor is bland, overly simplified. Looking forward to going again… Many months from now. And a shout out to their staff and management… Friendly, effective, and attentive - But not overly so. I’m not a big ravioli person, but it’s… Heavenly. I do have to say something else, though… Whatever they do to the ravioli… It’s magical. With that said… We WILL be coming back after it’s safe for me to have everything again because we need to try the menu the way that the chef intended it to be enjoyed. Even the ones that the chef had to modify for my «condition» turned out amazing. In fact, we were delighted with each of the courses. Second, I still want everything to be delicious… because it’s our anniversary and because $$$. One, I hope I didn’t piss off the chef by throwing a wrench into his carefully crafted program. I asked our waiter if the chef would be able to do a pregnant-friendly twist on the prix fixe (but if not, that would have been totally understandable). Sure, I could have ordered off the menu, but whenever there’s a prix fixe option, that’s what we go with. As you can imagine, I was skeptical about going to a Japanese-French restaurant because, although I am a high maintenance customer, I hate being a PITA customer. Being pregnant means you can’t eat a lot of things, including undercooked meats. But here’s the catch this year: I’m pregnant. Since we went to Paris for our honeymoon, we visit French restaurants for our anniversary. My husband and I have been married for 2 years now.
